The Old Blind Squirrel Just Ain't What It Used To Be

There's a really old squirrel that's been hanging around all winter. I usually set up a bird feeder and a squirrel feeder in the winter. It's a diversion while I'm snowed in or unable to do much when my arthritis flares up.

But this little guy (he has big testicles so it's a guy), is real friendly and kind of waddles around instead of scampers like most squirrels. I felt sorry for him so I gave him extra scraps of bread and crackers.

Got a good look at him today and he's totally blind! Both pupils are white and I guess that's why he waddles and doesn't scamper.

He's got the whole yard mapped out by smell and sound. He comes waddling around (he feels his way as he goes) whenever I'm out in the morning and walks around my feet till he gets his bread fix. Then he climbs the fence for his corn fix.

And I complain about my arthritis when this guy is alone in a world of darkness that without my feeding him, would most likely be dead, or next to it. Maybe knee, hip, elbow and wrist pain isn't so bad after all!
