This old Beast was my sister's car she bought when it was almost new in'84. It's been sitting for years and she was ready to junk it just to get it out of the yard.
I told her I'd take it and see if anything was salvageable. (She made it sound like it was a compost heap)
I went over and got it started and after sputtering and missing for a bit, it evened out and purred like a kitten even with several year old gas!
I drove it home and with new gas it ran even better. It has the Buick V-6 231ci engine in it. (During that time GM got in trouble for putting different make engines in different cars) And after the usual trouble cars have when sitting for a long time, it's turned out to be a nice running dependable car. Even if it does have a carb. instead of fuel injection.
First, I had to replace the fuel pump which started leaking the first week. Test drove it and a tire blew out. Lug nuts were rusted on so I limped it home. Changed all 4 tires the next day.
Then I had to replace heater hoses and put a CD player in it and been driving it most every day. I put primer on the rust spots, put the grill back in, bought some fuzzy dice, painted the rims and I'm all set for now. I'll drive it through the winter and try and get it painted this summer. It gets over 20mpg in town and over 30mpg on the highway so the V6 is staying in it!
I took it out today and noticed that a rock chip in the windshield, is now a big crack that moved across the windshield while it was warming up. So now it needs a windshield. Eventually, but not now. For, now I'm just going to drive it and see how it does.
